Kompas.com: Pioneer of Indonesian Online Media Continuously Improving
Kompas.com is one of the pioneer online media in Indonesia which was first launched on the internet on September 14, 1995, under the name Kompas Online or KOL. Initially, Kompas Online only displayed replicas of daily news from Kompas published on that day. The goal was to provide services to Kompas daily readers in areas that were difficult to reach by Kompas distribution networks. With the presence of Kompas Online, Kompas daily readers, especially in eastern Indonesia and overseas, could enjoy Kompas daily on the same day without waiting for several days as usual.
To provide even better service, in early 1996, the Kompas Online address was changed to www.kompas.com. With this new address, Kompas Online became even more popular among loyal Kompas daily readers overseas.
Seeing the great potential of the digital world, Kompas Online was then developed into a separate business unit under the flag of PT Kompas Cyber Media (KCM) on August 6, 1998. Since then, Kompas Online has been better known as KCM. In this era, KCM visitors not only got replicas of Kompas daily but also received updates on the latest news developments that occurred throughout the day.

On May 29, 2008, Kompas.com underwent a rebranding by referring back to the Kompas brand, which is known for its journalism that gives meaning. The rebranding of Kompas.com aims to emphasize that this news portal wants to be present among readers as a reference for good journalism in the midst of the flow of information that is unclear in its accuracy.
